TVC Studio: Publishing & Design Services

I am also available to work on independent projects.

I offer a variety of services, such as:

Project Development & Editing

A photobook is not a work of loosely connected images or a “best of” portfolio. It is a carefully edited series of photos guided by a concept, meant to introduce an idea or a personal perspective to a wider audience in a beautiful book.

But how do you make the transition from hundreds of images into a concise, well-curated, series that is ready for publication?

We will work together to develop the concept behind your project, helping you to focus your series of images in order to tell your story in the best way possible.

By the end, we will have developed a clear concept for the project, a finished edit of images and a sequence that works best for your book.

Book Design

You have worked hard on your project, and you are ready for the next step: to transform it into a finished book. But where do you start? Together we’ll transform your ideas into a top-quality, beautiful book you will be proud of.

Every book is unique, and should be designed in a way that best suits your project and most effectively conveys your story. I’ve designed more than 50 books for The Velvet Cell, from small zines, to hardback books. You can see a bigger collection here.

There are a jungle of decisions to be made about format and size, layout and design, paper, binding, materials and finishing which all work toward illustrating and emboldening your project. I can help you with these decisions.

At the end, you will have a print-ready PDF. See here for a full list of what’s included.

Print Management

Your project and design are ready, but you don’t know where to go next. You don’t know about book production, and want someone to guide you through it. I will personally guide you through the entire production process – from proofing, to printing and delivery – or I can take care of it all myself.

I can organise the prepress procedure and then manage the entire printing and binding stages. I will help you avoid costly mistakes and make sure your project is printed exactly how you imagined.

We can find a suitable printer for you or we can recommend one from our experience. From there we will oversee the entire process, ensuring you get the book you imagined in your hands.

I can also go on site and supervise the printing process if necessary.

General Consulting:

Are you planning to self-publish your own photobook? Do you need help, but don’t know where to turn? I am here to help. I will answer your questions via Skype or email.

About TVC Studio

TVC Studio is the studio arm of The Velvet Cell, an independent photobook publishing house based in Berlin.

I’ve designed dozens of books in collaboration with photographers and authors just like you, and gained a lot of experience along the way. That’s why I’m able to answer many of your questions and help you avoid costly pitfalls.

I specialise in art book design, with a developed understanding of formats, papers, and bindings that are essential to your book project.

Being an independent book designer allows me to work with you one-on-one to achieve the results you are looking for. I never subcontract work out. This way I can maintain the highest standards of quality while involving you in the process as much or as little as you want. My priority is that you get exactly what you want for your finished book.

I work from Berlin, Germany. Don’t worry if you live elsewhere, we can communicate by phone, email or Skype.

Free Initial Consultation

I know this is a project you want to get right the first time. That’s why I offer a complimentary 30-minute phone, Skype, or email consultation where we can discuss your book, answer any questions you may have, and get to know each other a bit before deciding whether to proceed to the next steps of the project. There is no obligation.
